ANDMA’s Acting Head Visits Darah-e-Boom District in Badghis Province to Assess the Situation of Drought-Affected and at-risk People

Today, Tuesday, the Acting Head of the National Disaster Management Authority, Honorable Alhaj Mullah Nooruddin Turabi, leading a delegation, traveled to the Nakhcheristan area of Darah Boom District in Badghis Province to assess the situation of people affected by drought and at risk, and to assess the provision of water supply for them.
Honorable Mr. Turabi met with the local residents and emphasized that water is a fundamental necessity for meeting daily life needs, supporting agriculture, and promoting the development of a region. He stated that efforts are underway to supply water to the Nakhcheristan area. The plan is to transport water from the Bala Murghab River to the Nakhcheristan area of Darah Boom District using solar-powered systems to lift the water to higher elevations, from where it can be distributed to all drought-affected villages through pipelines.
Previously, a four-member technical team had been appointed by the Authority—comprising the Head of ANDMA Badghis, representatives from the Provincial Governor’s Office, the Rural Rehabilitation and Development Directorate, and the Water and Energy Department. This issue has also been shared with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), seeking humanitarian institutions support for the water transfer initiative to this area.
It is worth mentioning that the benefits of this project include improved access to water, prevention of rural displacement, better health and living conditions, access to safe drinking water, and the enhancement of agriculture, livestock, and overall animal welfare.
