Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority Acting Head Traveled to Nangarhar to Address Migrant Situation

On Wednesday, the Acting Head of Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority, Alhaj Mullah Nooruddin Turabi, accompanied by a delegation, traveled to Nangarhar province to assess the general situation of forcibly displaced migrants, facilitate the construction of shelters and address their urgent needs. During the visit, he met with the Governor of Nangarhar, Alhaj Mullah Mohammad Naeem Akhund and other provincial officials.
Subsequently, accompanied by the Head of Nangarhar’s Disaster Management Directorate, Molvi Saifullah Khalid and the delegation, Alhaj Mullah Nooruddin Turabi visited Torkham border crossing’s zero point, in line with the directive of the Prime Minister’s Office of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.
During the visit, the Acting Head met with officials of the Umari camp at the Torkham border, listened to the migrants’ challenges, issues and suggestions and held discussions on shelter construction, distribution of additional aid, and addressing the urgent needs of returnee migrants. Necessary decisions were made, and a commitment was expressed to resolve the migrants’ issues and provide essential facilities.
Alhaj Mullah Nooruddin Turabi also inspected areas designated for setting up tents for migrants and instructed the mine clearance team to ensure these areas are cleared of mines and unexploded ordnance.
Additionally, together with Nangarhar’s Governor, Alhaj Mullah Mohammad Naeem Akhund, he distributed food and non-food assistance to approximately 200 forcibly returned migrant families at the Umari camp in Torkham.
In conclusion, the Acting Head of Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority, alongside Nangarhar’s Governor Alhaj Mullah Mohammad Naeem Akhund, the Head of Nangarhar’s Disaster Management Directorate Mawlawi Saifullah Khalid and other local officials, inaugurated a dedicated camp for Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority. They also initiated the installation of tents and the establishment of an equipped mobile health clinic.
