The Acting Head of Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority met with WASH Cluster Deputy

Today, on Tuesday, Honorable Mullah Nooruddin Turabi, the Acting Head of Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority, met and held discussions with Mr. Emmanuel, Deputy of the WASH Cluster at his office.
Welcoming the delegation, Alhaj Turabi Sahb stated that the purpose of this meeting was to urgently address the severe drought crisis affecting the Nakhchiristan area of Badghis Province, emphasizing the need to establish a water supply system for the residents as soon as possible.
Alhaj Turabi Sahb added that he had personally visited Nakhchiristan, where 41 villages, comprising 2,750 families, are grappling with a dire drought crisis, lacking even access to drinking water. He explained that a survey had been conducted to propose a solution involving the use of solar-powered systems to pump water from the Bala Murghab River to higher areas, where a large reservoir would be constructed to distribute water to the villages through pipelines. Currently, water tankers from the Badghis provincial authorities are meeting the water needs of the residents.
In response, Mr. Emmanuel, Deputy of the WASH Cluster, expressed gratitude to the Acting Head of the Authority and provided details about the cluster’s operations. He noted that the WASH Cluster is an independent entity that facilitates coordination among organizations and has representatives in eight zones to engage with institutions.
Mr. Emmanuel further assured that the WASH Cluster would share the challenges faced by the Nakhchiristan community with donors to urgently seek a solution. He expressed hope that they would soon have positive news for the drought-affected residents.
