OCHA is the part of the United Nations Secretariat responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent response to emergencies. OCHA also ensures there is a framework within which each actor can contribute to the overall response effort.
OCHA’s mission is to:

UNICEF has been working continuously in Afghanistan since 1949, making the organization one of the longest-serving international supporters to the country. Over the past 60 years UNICEF has promoted the rights of children and women throughout Afghanistan and worked to bring basic services, including education, health, Nutrition, protection, water and sanitation and hygiene to those who are most in need. By equipping and empowering communities to develop the inherent potential and resources of the country, the international community has an opportunity to promote peace and stability in Afghanistan. UNHCR has been on the ground in Afghanistan for over 30 years.  With 12 sub and field offices, UNHCR is present throughout the country working to facilitate voluntary repatriation, foster durable solutions and provide emergency assistance to conflict-induced internally displaced populations. As lead agency for the protection and emergency shelter/NFI clusters, UNHCR partners with the UN Country Team, International NGOs, National NGOs and key stakeholders in Afghanistan to maintain emergency preparedness and ensure a coordinated humanitarian response.

WFP has been working in Afghanistan since 1963 and addresses nutritional, educational and environmental deficiencies, as well as providing livelihood opportunities to a food-insecure population. Active in all 34 provinces, WFP has shifted its focus in recent years from emergency assistance to rehabilitation and recovery.

Agency Coordinating Body for Afghan Relief and Development (acbar)
The Agency Coordinating Body for Afghan Relief and Development (ACBAR) is a national, independent NGO that provides a platform for information-sharing and networking for national and international NGOs in Afghanistan. Activities focus on information sharing, coordination, advocacy with NGO members, the government, UN, donors and wider civil society.  It also provides capacity building support to its members.  These activities are managed by different departments in the secretariat.

The Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS) is the Afghan affiliate of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The ARCS was founded in April 1934, and conducts wide-ranging humanitarian work throughout Afghanistan. The organization is focused primarily on disaster response, health care, and youth.
