On Saturday afternoon, the Acting Head of the National Disaster Management Authority ANDMA, Alhaj Mullah Nooruddin Turabi, met with the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mr. Ali Raza Bikdeli, along with his political advisors, Amir Raza Adibi and Mohammad Ali Mohammadi. The discussions focused on disaster management and other critical issues.
During the meeting, Alhaj Turabi Sahb warmly welcomed the Iranian Ambassador and his delegation, describing Iran as a good neighbor and a friendly nation. He spoke about disaster management efforts in Afghanistan and acknowledged Iran's assistance to the Afghan people during various crises, expressing heartfelt gratitude for their support.
In response to the Ambassador’s inquiry about the ANDMA’s needs, Alhaj Turabi Sahb noted that Iran, being a resource-rich country in oil and industry, could assist through its Disaster Management Organization. He specifically requested that Iran provide 10,000 liters of diesel and 5,000 liters of petrol per province for emergency projects across Afghanistan’s 34 provinces, totaling 340,000 liters of diesel and 170,000 liters of petrol. He explained that recurring floods, driven by climate change, threaten Afghanistan’s agricultural lands, orchards, homes, and public infrastructure. To mitigate these risks,  ANDMA plans to construct retaining walls and implement other preventive projects, which require significant fuel resources. Additionally, he highlighted the potential for Iran’s Disaster Management Organization to support capacity-building for ANDMA staff. Alhaj Turabi Sahb added that further needs of the authority would be shared with the Iranian side. He also urged Iran to assist in providing food supplies for those affected by disasters.
In response, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mr. Ali Reza Bikdeli, expressed his pleasure at the opportunity for this meeting. He emphasized the close ties between the two nations based on shared humanity, neighborly relations, and Islamic values, which create mutual responsibilities. He reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to cooperation with Afghanistan, noting that bilateral relations are strengthening day by day. As evidence, he cited the construction of a 117-kilometer road between Iran and Farah province.
The Ambassador further acknowledged that ANDMA is among the organizations that serve people during challenging times, making it worthy of support. He pledged that the Iranian Embassy would act as a bridge between ANDMA and Iran’s Disaster Management Organization. He assured that ANDMA’s requests would be conveyed to the relevant Iranian authorities, and the outcomes would be communicated back.
In conclusion, both sides committed to sustained and strengthened cooperation.
