Today in morning, the Acting Head of Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority, Haji Mullah Nooruddin Turabi, met with the President of the International Rescue Committee (IRC), Ms. Shireen Hassan Ibrahim and her accompanying delegation at his office, where they signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for joint cooperation.
During the meeting, Alhaj Turabi Sahb welcomed the IRC delegation and stated that the authority has empowered organizations to provide assistance and implement infrastructure projects in any sector and province where they are capable. He added that Afghanistan has been affected by numerous challenges, including climate change, and requires aid, which is why the authority collaborates swiftly and transparently with organizations.
Meanwhile, Ms. Shireen provided details about her organization’s ongoing projects and expressed gratitude for the past cooperation from Alhaj Turabi Sahb and the authority’s staff. She noted that one of the reasons the IRC can implement its projects quickly and secure increased funding from donors is the effective and timely cooperation of the National Disaster Management Authority, which facilitates these efforts.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties signed an MoU valued at $1,019,034. Under this agreement, cash assistance will be distributed to 2,080 vulnerable and affected families in the Muqur district of Badghis province. Each family will receive $300 in aid, disbursed in installments based on their level of need and vulnerability.
Additionally, the project includes technical surveys of at-risk areas in Herat and Badghis provinces, which will be utilized by the IRC and other relevant entities for planning future projects.
