This morning on Sunday, His Excellency Alhaj Mullah Nooruddin Turabi, the Director General of Afghanistan National Disaster Management, Authority, met at his office with Mahmoud Pacha, the Deputy of the Child Protection Institute, and signed the Memorandum of Understanding on joint cooperation with him.

During the meeting, Alhaj Turabi Sahb stated that, due to the increasing number of displaced persons resulting from recent attacks in the provinces of Nangarhar, Kunar, Khost, Paktia and Paktika, our primary focus at present is on addressing their situation and livelihood needs. He called on organizations to stand alongside the displaced in these circumstances and provide them with the necessary assistance.

While receiving a report on the institute’s actions related to the above issues, he emphasized the timely and transparent implementation of the provisions of the MoU.

Meanwhile, the Deputy of the Child Protection Institute provided information about the MoU under discussion and presented a brief report on the institute’s activities in Nangarhar and Kunar. He stated that the institute — in coordination with the provincial directorates of disaster management in the mentioned provinces — had distributed cash assistance to 112 displaced families in Nangarhar and non-food item packages to 99 displaced families in Kunar province.

It is worth noting that, at the conclusion of the meeting, the Memorandum of Understanding for joint cooperation, valued at a total of eight hundred forty-one thousand one hundred twenty-two (841,122) dollars was signed by both parties.

Under this agreement, the aforementioned organisation will construct 13 water networks and carry out major rehabilitation of 14 other damaged water networks in drought-affected areas, including the city of Shiberghan and Qarqin district of Jawzjan province; the city of Sar-e-Pol and Sayad district of Sar-e-Pol province; and Pashtunkot district of Faryab province.

Additionally, hygiene kits will be distributed to 3,131 families affected by drought, and public awareness sessions will be conducted for local communities on hygiene practices and the proper use of water networks.
