Following the onset of a new wave of forcibly returned migrants from Iran, the process of setting up tents has officially begun at the Islam Qala border in Herat Province to provide temporary accommodation and rest areas for these families.
This initiative, under the guidance of the Honorable Acting Head of Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority, Alhaj Mullah Nooruddin Turabi, was carried out by the operational team of the central administration after leveling the ground and laying gravel in the area. The tents are planned to be equipped with essential facilities, including clean drinking water, electricity, toilets, bathrooms, waste disposal areas and other necessary amenities.
The assigned teams from Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority promptly began setting up the tents in the zero-point area of the border to provide temporary shelter for hundreds of homeless families. In the first phase, these tents are intended to accommodate women, children, the elderly, and individuals with vulnerabilities.
According to local authorities, the process of forcibly deporting migrants from Iran has intensified in recent days, with hundreds of families returning to the country daily under harsh conditions and without access to basic facilities. In such circumstances, providing suitable rest areas and essential medical and food assistance is of utmost importance.
It is worth mentioning that Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority has previously undertaken similar measures at various border points across the country, particularly at Torkham in Nangarhar Province and Pul-e-Abrisham in Nemroz Province, to assist forcibly returned migrants.
