This morning, on Tuesday, His Excellency Alhaj Mullah Nooruddin Turabi, the Director General of Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority, met at his office with Ms. Mihyung Park (Mia Park), Director of Mission of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Afghanistan, along with Ms. Ashraf al-Sahr, Head of the Disaster Risk Reduction Program, and her accompanying delegation. Discussions focused on joint programs for the year 2026.

In his remarks, Alhaj Turabi Sahb described IOM as a valuable and reliable partner of the Authority. He noted that, based on the effective collaboration experiences of the past with humanitarian organizations, it has been decided to prepare and share a prioritized list of needs and requirements of the people with active institutions and organisations in the humanitarian sector. This will ensure these priorities are incorporated into their 2026 programs and that mobilized budgets are allocated and spent in the most appropriate places.

He further emphasized the need to resume previously suspended projects in Paktia province and stated that, through joint efforts, the existing challenges can be resolved and the projects implemented.

The Director General also stressed the acceleration of volunteer recruitment and training processes and expressed the Authority's full readiness to cooperate in this area.

Meanwhile, Ms. Mihyung Park expressed her appreciation for the past cooperation with Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority. She highlighted that preparing a list of priorities at this time is particularly important, as work is currently underway on programs related to disasters—including local capacity building, preparedness, and emergency response. She noted that this list can be effectively utilized and shared with various donors.

She also addressed the suspension of projects in Paktia province, stating that they are seeking an appropriate solution to resume their implementation as soon as possible.

Ms. Park provided information regarding the volunteer training and recruitment program, mentioning that discussions are ongoing with the Turkish Red Crescent for cooperation in this field, with efforts underway to launch the process at the earliest opportunity.

At the conclusion of the meeting, His Excellency Alhaj Mullah Nooruddin Turabi, the Director General of Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority, presented a gift to Ms. Mihyung Park in recognition of IOM's cooperation and services.
