The Deputy for Disaster Affairs Coordination of Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority, Al-Haj Mullah Abdul Wali Saranwal (Haji Waris), led a delegation of technical, professional, administrative, and financial experts and engineers to Nuristan province. There, he met with the Governor of Nooristan, Al-Haj Qari Zainul Abidin Abid, in the presence of the Head of Nuristan’s Disaster Management Department, Maulvi Saifullah Khalid.
During the meeting, the Deputy for Disaster Affairs Coordination expressed appreciation for the efforts of local authorities in disaster management. He stated that the purpose of the visit was to assess the activities of the Nuristan Disaster Management Department, follow up on the directives, orders and communications of the Islamic Emirate’s leadership, monitor financial and administrative affairs, evaluate preventive projects, oversee the aid distribution process, and listen to challenges and suggestions.
Honorable Al-Haj Mulla Abdul Wali Saranwal (Haji Waris) emphasized that the NDMA is committed to fulfilling its legal responsibilities and mandates by implementing preventive projects, providing emergency aid to affected communities, and enhancing the quality of natural disaster management. He pledged to share the issues raised during the meeting with ANDMA leadership and take necessary steps for effective action.
The Governor of Nuristan described the visit by the Deputy and his delegation as valuable for evaluation, oversight and addressing public concerns, calling for such visits to continue. He explained that Nuristan province is divided into three zones: the Eastern Zone (Barg-e-Matal, Kamdish, Waygal), the Western Zone (Nurgram, Mandol, Doab), and the Central Zone (Wama, Kantiwa, Parun).
The Governor noted that due to the lack of transportation infrastructure between these zones, residents are forced to travel through several other provinces to reach the provincial capital. He requested the establishment of official representations and dedicated warehouses to store food and non-food aid supplies.
Referring to Nooristan’s geographically vulnerable condition, the Governor stressed the need for serious attention to implementing preventive projects and delivering emergency aid. He added that previously, Honorable Haji Torabi had played a significant role in delivering emergency aid, which was greatly appreciated by the public.
Subsequently, the Head of Nuristan’s Disaster Management Department presented a report on recent incidents in the province, particularly the damages caused by fires, and requested urgent actions and support from the central authority.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Deputy for Disaster Affairs Coordination assured that all suggestions, needs, and concerns would be shared with the Islamic Emirate’s leadership, and necessary measures would be taken to improve disaster management in Nuristan. He committed to ensuring that humanitarian aid would be delivered to affected communities through Laghman, Kunar, and Nooristan provinces as a precautionary measure, in accordance with the allocated quota.
The Honorable Deputy later met with the Head and staff of Nuristan’s Disaster Management Department, listened to their challenges and suggestions, and encouraged them to provide effective, timely, and dedicated services.
He emphasized that employees must treat clients with respect, perform their duties promptly and without delay, and uphold transparency, obedience, integrity, accuracy, and steadfastness in managing public resources. He further stated that all employees should serve as true public servants and utilize their professional expertise for the country’s progress.
It is worth noting that the technical delegation has begun practical work to assess the aforementioned issues.
