Today, on Thursday, the Acting Head of Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority, Alhaj Mullah Nooruddin Turabi, met with the UK Chargé d'Affaires for Afghanistan, Robert Chatterton Dickson and the British Consul, Adam Radcliffe at his office. They discussed matters of mutual interest and disaster management.
During the meeting, Alhaj Turabi Sahb stated that their primary duty is to address the humanitarian situation of the people, a task that requires global cooperation. He added that the international community should not leave Afghanistan alone in this regard, as the country, as part of the world, has made significant progress in strengthening security, ensuring no threats emerge from this region to the world, and eradicating poppy cultivation—achievements that should not be overlooked.
In response to a question raised by the Chargé d'Affaires about the authority’s priorities, Alhaj Turabi Sahb explained that they need cooperation in two key areas:
1.  Foundational and preventive measures.
2. Rapid response to those affected.
He further noted that they require nine types of food items and five types of non-food items for the affected population, efforts for which are ongoing and urged UK to assist within the framework of their operational principles.
Meanwhile, the UK Chargé d'Affaires, Robert Chatterton Dickson, thanked Alhaj Turabi Sahb for the meeting and said that the international community is seeking engagement with Afghanistan, as it is part of the global community. He added, “I am aware of the impressive work of this authority and I thank you for your cooperation with humanitarian agencies. We want Afghanistan to be at the forefront of nations in humanitarian diplomacy.”
The Chargé d'Affaires stated that the UK has previously provided assistance to those affected by disasters through aid agencies and will continue to do so in the event of future incidents. He also mentioned that the UK is contributing $7.5 million through the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to support forcibly deported migrants.
Mr. Robert Chatterton expressed hope for a stable, developed, and prosperous Afghanistan.
It is worth noting that during the meeting, the Head of Mine Action Coordination, Qari Nooruddin Rastamkhil, spoke about the authority’s mine clearance activities. He emphasized that countries that previously operated in Afghanistan should honor their commitments and cooperate in clearing unexploded ordnance from areas they once utilized.
