The Demolition Work on Five Hazardous Rock Masses in Kabul’s District 7 Begins

Today, On Monday, Molvi Abdul Wali Saranwal (Haji Waris), the Deputy for Coordinating Disaster Affairs at the Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority, officially launched the demolition of five large rock masses at risk of landslide in District 7, Zone 3, behind the Ministry of Refugees and Returnees.

The ceremony began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran. The Deputy stressed the need for speed, precision, and strict adherence to safety measures throughout the demolition process. He was accompanied by Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Khadem, the Director of Prevention and Risk Reduction, along with a technical and professional team.

Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Khadem provided details about the project, stating that the rock masses, with a total volume of 99.696 cubic meters, posed a serious threat to the lives of local residents. He added that, following directives from the Authority’s leadership, the safe demolition operation has now begun at a cost of 99,696 Afghanis.

It is worth noting that the Authority’s Search and Rescue technical team was also present at the site to receive practical training in safe rock demolition. The aim is to build internal capacity so that similar projects can be carried out in the future using the Authority’s own resources without relying on external funding.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Haqdad Rashed, the representative of the local council, expressed gratitude to Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority. He said that residents had previously lived in constant fear due to these rocks, and that their safe removal would protect hundreds of families from potential loss of life and property caused by landslides.

He added that other unstable rock masses still exist in the same area, and the Authority has a systematic plan underway to secure them and ensure complete safety for the people.
