The UN Offices in Afghanistan Promised to Provide Humanitarian Aid for Victims of Recent Floods

On Thursday morning, an emergency meeting was convened to address the plight of those impacted by the recent floods. The session was chaired by Alhaj Mullah Nooruddin Turabi, the Acting Head of Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority and included representatives from UN-OCHA, WFP, IOM, ECHO, IHH, and UNICEF, alongside the Head of Media and Public Relations, the Head of the Emergency Operations Center, and the Acting Head of International Relations.
The Acting Head of Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority began by thanking national and international organizations, as well as UN offices in Afghanistan, for their humanitarian support. He highlighted that the recent floods have inflicted financial damage and loss of life across 13 provinces, underscoring the critical need to prioritize humanitarian aid to avert further human losses.
Alhaj Turabi Sahb emphasized the dangers posed by natural disasters like floods, urging that humanitarian assistance must be sustained and accelerated. He also called for stronger coordination between the authority and national and international entities to enhance aid management and ensure transparency in its distribution.
In response, representatives from UN-OCHA, WFP, IOM, ECHO, IHH and UNICEF pledged their commitment to delivering healthcare, non-food items, food supplies, and temporary shelters. They assured that supporting victims of disasters, particularly the recent floods, remains a top priority.
The meeting concluded with a focus on resolving the challenges faced by recent flood victims, ensuring timely aid delivery and fostering greater collaboration between the authority and national and international organizations. It was agreed that the survey process would be expedited while simultaneously addressing immediate needs.
