Today in morning, the Director General of Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority, His Excellency Alhaj Mullah Nooruddin Turabi, met at his office with Mr. Alexander Matheou, the Regional Director of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) for Asia–Pacific, and Dr. Hossam Faisal, Head of the IFRC delegation for Afghanistan.

In the meeting, His Excellency Turabi Sahb described IFRC as an excellent partner and stated that the work of the two institutions is very closely aligned. He emphasized that greater efforts should be made to further strengthen relations and expand joint activities, adding that his Authority stands fully ready for such cooperation. The Director General also discussed the challenges facing returnees and highlighted the Authority’s programs in the field of disaster risk management. He noted that, due to climate change, Afghanistan remains highly vulnerable to various disasters—particularly floods—and that nationwide efforts are currently underway to clear flood channels so that water can flow through its natural paths, thereby minimizing loss of life, injuries, and financial damage as much as possible. He further mentioned that, starting from the beginning of 2026, a comprehensive list of all needs and priorities has been prepared, and the Federation can collaborate with the Authority based on this list or in accordance with its own principles.

For his part, His Excellency, Mr. Alexander stated that meeting with them was an honor for the IFRC delegation. He observed that the Authority is providing services to millions of people across Afghanistan. He added that their efforts are focused on delivering even better services to deported and returning migrants, and that—given the reduction in donor funding for Afghanistan—IFRC is assessing how this shortfall can be addressed and compensated. He expressed strong interest in working jointly with Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority in various relevant areas.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides stressed the importance of continuing to provide assistance to the people of the country and agreed to further strengthen their cooperation in this regard.

Additionally, the gifts prepared by His Excellency Tarabi Sahb were presented to the guests in a warm and cordial atmosphere.
