ANDMA and the World Vision International Organization signed an MoU Worth a Total of $1,271,000 for Joint Cooperation
Today, on Wednesday, Honorable Alhaj Mullah Nooruddin Turabi, the Director General of Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority, met Mr. Abdul Wahab Arsh, Country Director of World Vision International, at his office and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for joint cooperation valued at a total of one million two hundred seventy-one thousand U.S. dollars ($1,271,000).
In his remarks, Alhaj Turabi Sahb described World Vision International’s cooperation in the areas of natural disaster management, preventive projects, disaster risk reduction, and emergency assistance as a significant achievement for the vulnerable people of Afghanistan.
He further emphasized that the signed MoU must be implemented as soon as possible in the relevant provinces so that the people can benefit from it without delay.
Mr. Abdul Wahab Arsh, Country Director of World Vision International, also spoke about the importance of the agreement and stated that his organization is committed to long-term support for the people of Afghanistan. He added that World Vision will collaborate with communities through programs focused on prevention, emergency response, community empowerment, and disaster risk reduction.
It is worth noting that, under this signed MoU, the following activities will be carried out in Jowand district of Badghis province and Khwaja Sabzposh district of Faryab province:
1. Cash-for-Work assistance will be provided to 1,000 families (500 families in Badghis and 500 families in Faryab). Each family will receive $220 over four months in two installments of $110 each. The activities under this component include the construction and rehabilitation of retaining walls, irrigation systems, and other public-benefit works. The total value of this component in both provinces is $220,000.
2. Unconditional cash assistance will be distributed to 3,000 families (1,500 families in Badghis and 1,500 families in Faryab). Each family will receive $200 over six months in three installments: $80 in the first installment, $80 in the second, and $40 in the third. The total value of this activity in both provinces is $600,000.
3. Equipment and materials for community public-works projects will be procured, including tools and materials required for irrigation systems, retaining walls, check dams, and other community infrastructure (e.g., shovels, pickaxes, wheelbarrows, ropes, cement, stones, and other necessary tools) for the designated villages. Additionally, a budget of $80,000 has been allocated for the construction of four community projects (two in Badghis and two in Faryab). Procurement of these materials and equipment will be based on community needs and in accordance with proposals from the provincial offices of the Authority.
