The Acting Head of Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority met with the European Union Ambassador for Afghanistan at his office

Today, on Thursday, the Acting Head of Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority, Alhaj Mullah Nooruddin Turabi, met with the European Union Ambassador to Afghanistan, Ms. Veronika Boswijk-Puhar, along with the Head of the Prevention Department, Ms. Karine, the Head of the Emergency Department, François, and Advisor Kevin, at his office.
At the outset, Turabi Sahb welcomed the delegation and shared a number of issues with them, including challenges related to natural and non-natural disasters, climate change, drought, and preventive measures.
Turabi Sahb also requested cooperation in managing emergencies and risks related to natural and non-natural disasters and implementing preventive projects in the field of climate change mitigation.
He emphasized the importance of working on preventive measures, stating that prevention is cost-effective and helps avoid major damages. He urged for the implementation of preventive projects wherever possible.
In response, the EU Ambassador for Afghanistan, Ms. Veronika Boswijk-Puhar, acknowledged her country’s cooperation with Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority. She mentioned that the EU had spent $150 million over the past three years and expressed readiness to continue providing assistance in line with the principles and needs of the Afghan government, ministries, and agencies.
Ms. Boswijk-Puhar highlighted that the EU had responded to emergencies in Afghanistan within 24 hours, providing assistance worth $6 million to earthquake-affected families in Paktia, Khost, and Herat provinces. The aid included various food and non-food items.
Both parties emphasized the importance of maintaining coordination and delivering humanitarian aid during emergencies. 
Lastly, the meeting concluded with a focus on cooperation in emergency situations and projects.
